What Form 3 schemes of work are

A Form 3 scheme of work is a term-by-term, week-by-week teaching plan that breaks a subject's syllabus into what to teach each week, with the objectives, content, teaching and learning activities, resources and references, and how learners will be assessed. Under the 8-4-4 system, the scheme is drawn from the KICD (then known as KIE) secondary syllabus for each subject, and it is the plan a teacher works from day to day once the syllabus has been mapped across the term.

This page brings together the Form 3 schemes of work for every subject in one place. Each set comes in editable Word format, so you can fill in your school and teacher details, adjust the weeks and dates to fit your school's calendar, and adapt the activities to your class. They are kept in line with the current school calendar so they are ready to use for the term ahead. Form 3 subjects

Form 3 is the year learners settle into their chosen 8-4-4 subject combination and begin the deeper, examinable content that Form 4 and the KCSE build on. Unlike the CBC's fixed learning areas, secondary school runs on subject choices: every learner takes the core subjects, then a selection of sciences, humanities and technical or applied subjects depending on the school's offering. The schemes below cover the full range of subjects taught at Form 3, so you can go straight to the one you teach.

Some subjects are also available in versions developed against specific approved coursebooks alongside the general syllabus-aligned schemes — both sit under the same subject link, so open the subject you need and check the file titles to pick the version that matches the book your school uses.

What every Form 3 scheme of work contains

Whichever subject you pick, each Form 3 scheme is built the same way, from that subject's 8-4-4 syllabus: the topics and sub-topics broken down week by week across the term, each with lesson objectives, the content to be covered, teaching and learning activities, the learning and teaching resources, references to the recommended coursebooks, and a remarks column for tracking progress. This is the standard secondary scheme-of-work format, so the files fit straight into your professional records and stand up to a quality-assurance or TSC observation.

How the schemes map across the three terms

Each subject's scheme spreads its topics across Term 1, Term 2 and Term 3 and builds in continuous assessment tests, revision and examinations. Form 3 carries some of the heaviest content in the secondary cycle — it introduces the more demanding topics that Form 4 revises and the KCSE examines — so the schemes are paced to give that content enough time before the Form 4 revision year.
