What Grade 5 lesson plans are
Grade 5 sits in the upper-primary band, where learners move into distinct subjects taught by learning area rather than the integrated "Activities" areas of lower primary. A lesson plan takes a single lesson from the scheme of work and sets out exactly how to teach it – the specific learning outcome, the key inquiry question, the learning resources, how the lesson is organised from introduction through to conclusion, and how it will be assessed.
These Grade 5 lesson plans follow the KICD lesson-plan format, so they fit your professional records and stand up to a curriculum-support-officer observation. They come in editable Word format, so you can fill in your school and teacher details and adapt the activities to your class, and they are kept in line with the current school calendar and the latest KICD curriculum design.
Two package options: continuous or termly
We offer the Grade 5 lesson plans in two packages, and the difference is how much of the term they cover – so choose based on how much you need:
- Continuous Package – a flexible, pay-as-you-go mini-package covering a few weeks at a time (around 15 lessons). Good if you want to plan a term in stages, or just need the next few weeks sorted.
- Termly Package – a comprehensive mega-package that secures the whole term in one download, every lesson covered from week one to the end of term. Best if you want the term fully planned in a single purchase.
Both follow the same KICD lesson-plan format and cover the same CBC learning areas; the termly package simply goes the full distance where the continuous package lets you take it a few weeks at a time. Pick the one that fits how you plan, then use the learning-area links below.

What every Grade 5 lesson plan contains
Whichever package and learning area you choose, each Grade 5 lesson plan follows the KICD structure:
- Administrative Details: school, class, learning area, date, time and roll, filled in against your own records.
- Strand and Sub-strand: the specific strand and sub-strand from the curriculum design that the lesson belongs to.
- Specific Learning Outcome: what the learner should be able to do by the end of the lesson.
- Key Inquiry Question: the question that drives the lesson and keeps it inquiry-based rather than purely instructional.
- Learning Resources: the materials, references and digital resources the lesson calls for.
- Organisation of Learning: the lesson broken into introduction, lesson development, extended activities and conclusion, with clear teacher and learner activities at each stage.
- Assessment: how the lesson will be assessed, matched to the learning outcome.
- Reflection: a space to note how the lesson went and what to carry into the next one.
Core competencies, values and Pertinent and Contemporary Issues are mainstreamed into the activities throughout, in line with the current KICD curriculum design.
