What Grade 8 schemes of work are
Grade 8 is the middle year of Junior School. The nine learning areas that opened in Grade 7 continue, but the ground each one covers deepens, and the year settles into the steady subject teaching that Grade 9 will carry to its close. A scheme of work is what keeps that teaching on track: it takes the KICD curriculum design for a learning area and lays it out across the school calendar – the strands and sub-strands broken into weekly lessons, each tied to a specific learning outcome, with suggested learning experiences, key inquiry questions, learning resources and assessment.
This page gathers the Grade 8 schemes of work for every learning area in one place. Each set is an editable Word file, so you can move the weeks, adjust the dates and adapt the activities to your school's calendar and your class, and each is kept in line with the current school calendar and the latest KICD curriculum designs. Use the links below to open the scheme for the learning area you need, or the button at the end for the full Grade 8 set.
The Grade 8 learning areas
The Junior School timetable at Grade 8 runs on nine core learning areas plus the Pastoral or Religious Instruction Programme – forty core lessons a week and one pastoral, forty plus one in the way the curriculum design writes it. KICD's rationalised design merged several areas that were once taught as separates, so the list below follows that current, rationalised structure rather than the older split subjects.

What every Grade 8 scheme of work contains
Whichever learning area you open, each Grade 8 scheme is built the same way from the KICD design for that area: strands and sub-strands split into weekly lessons, each with its specific learning outcome, suggested learning experiences, key inquiry questions, learning resources and a means of assessment. Running through all of them are the CBC core competencies – communication and collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and imagination, citizenship, digital literacy, learning to learn, and self-efficacy – together with values and Pertinent and Contemporary Issues, woven into the learning rather than taught as separate lessons.
How the schemes map across the three terms
Each learning area's scheme spreads its strands across Term 1, Term 2 and Term 3 and builds in assessment and revision as it goes. Grade 8 is a consolidation year: it neither carries the settling-in of Grade 7 nor the exit pressure of Grade 9, so the schemes are paced to take each learning area deeper while keeping the whole year's coverage visible. For the exact week-by-week sequence in your term, open the learning area you need above.
