What PP2 schemes of work are
PP2 (Pre-Primary Two) is the second and final year of pre-primary, the year that prepares a learner to transition into Grade 1. Learning at this level is entirely activity-based and play-centred – children build pre-literacy, pre-numeracy, motor, social and emotional skills through songs, games, stories and hands-on exploration rather than formal lessons. Each activity area is timetabled in short 30-minute sessions.
A scheme of work turns the KICD curriculum design for each activity area into a term-by-term, week-by-week plan: what to cover each week, the specific learning outcomes, suggested learning experiences, key inquiry questions, resources and assessment. The PP2 activity areas
Under the CBC pre-primary timetable, PP2 is organised into activity areas rather than subjects – the naming reflects how integrated and play-based the level is. The latest KICD curriculum review rationalised these areas, so the areas below follow the current, rationalised structure.
Language Activities – listening, speaking, pre-reading and pre-writing skills, including phonological awareness and early vocabulary, that prepare the learner for reading and writing in Grade 1. PP2 Language Activities schemes of work

What every PP2 scheme of work contains
Whichever activity area you pick, each PP2 scheme is built the same way, from the KICD design for that area: the strands and sub-strands broken into weekly activities, with specific learning outcomes, suggested learning experiences, key inquiry questions, learning resources and assessment. Because PP2 is entirely activity-based, the schemes lean on songs, games, stories, real objects and group play rather than written exercises, and each session is planned for a short attention span.
The schemes also mainstream the CBC core competencies – communication and collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and imagination, citizenship, digital literacy, learning to learn, and self-efficacy – together with values and Pertinent and Contemporary Issues, woven into everyday play and activity rather than taught separately.
How the schemes map across the three terms
Each activity area's scheme spreads its strands across Term 1, Term 2 and Term 3 and builds in observation-based assessment. Because PP2 is the bridge into Grade 1, the year concentrates on the foundational skills – letter and sound awareness, pre-number and counting, fine and gross motor control, and social and emotional readiness – that formal schooling depends on.
